    New computer

Time to update the old computer.  So the computer that I’m using at home was bought from Micro center circa 2002.  They had a deal on AMD Athlon 1800+ Processor and a shuttle Motherboard.  I also had to buy new Ram.  Everything else was recycled from my old computer.  Since then I’ve made small improvements to keep up with the times.  It now has 1 GB or ram, a second hard drive, USB 2.0 slots and thats about it.  I knew that the time would eventually come to do a major overhaul and that day was yesterday May 20th.  I had been going back and forth on what parts I should get for months.  Which processor do I get the 6400+ the 6000+ or do I get a new quad core Phenom.  Then there was the arguous process of choosing a motherboard and also graphics card.  Those two were the hardest decisions to make.  The easiest was what ram to choose.  So the new motherboard, processor, gfx card, and ram will be on my doorstep tomorrow so last night I decided that I had better start getting ready to migrate all of my data and such.  So I ran into a dilemma, here is the situation.  The new motherboard only has 1 IDE connector which means I can only hook up two IDE Devices.  Currently I have 4 connected(2 hard drives and 2 dvd rom/burner) so I have to ditch two of them.  Obviously I need one of them to be a hard drive and the other my DVD/CD/Burner Combo drive.  So the newer and bigger of my drives has been mostly extra storage for movies and games and downloads and such.  The smaller is older and has my OS installed on it.  Well I’ve decided that when I get the new computer I want to start with a fresh Install of the OS and I want it to be on the Bigger Faster Drive.  I also want to backup lots of files and stuff.  So I had to figure out how am I going to backup everything on the small drive to the big drive.  Then reformat the small drive.  Then backup all of the stuff on the big drive back to the small drive so I can reformat the big drive and do a fresh install.  That probably sounded very confusing but believe me it all kind of makes sense.  So I also have another computer that was running Ubuntu and I thought about maybe making that the file server for a little bit.  I also found an Old 40 GB HD that I thought was dead, but when I connected it I could see all of the old files.  So I have 4 HDs  2 of which have OS’ on them.  So here comes some more confusion on what I plan to do.  Back Up everything Onto the 250 GB and 40 GB.  Reformat the 120 GB and the 10 GB.  Install win xp on the 10 GB. Take all of the stuff that is on the 250 GB and put it on the 120 GB.  Leave the 40 GB alone for now.  Then when I get the new parts tomorrow I will attatch the Clean 250 GB and install the OS.  Then when needed I can steal the files from the other drives or like I said have a file server set up on the network.  So I hope you are all confused now. Bye.
